Design I Like
Well, I'm required to find some sort of design and base my knowledge of specific design concepts that we have been discussing in class, such as composition, balance, color, and typography. Of course, that knowledge has been lost in the hellish chaos of these past few weeks, so I am going to do whatever I can do in order to pull something together and get credit for this thing, no matter how little there is. Anyway, the image I decided to appreciate is a portrait used from a kind of computer game, a Japanese visual novel entitled "Umineko no Naku Koro ni", which means "When Seagulls Cry" in English. The portrait depicts a woman named Beatrice, also known as the Golden Witch. In the story, this Golden Witch is merely a legend and believed not to exist until hints regarding the truth behind her existence begin to surface, with this portrait serving as a means of determining what Beatrice is like. According to the design, a majority of the colors used suggest a warm atmosphere surrounding Beatrice. However, this is in stark contrast to her blue eyes, which give off a chilling aura to her smile. With these techniques, it's easy to make something like a portrait, which is generally a prop in the story, be treated as if it were an actual character. Of course, by now, I've completely lost track of what I want to say, so I had might as well wrap it up here of all places.

My Trip
At some point towards the end of winter (specifically which point I cannot recall because I didn't write this directly after that point, which I probably should have), I attended a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens. All I can remember was that I participated in a segment where we recorded our own voices to dub lines in a scene from the movie Babe. I probably would've had a more fulfilling experience to write about if I could actually remember all the things I did there, for my memories of the trip are stymied by the hellish experience I underwent to actually reach the museum. The streets and sidewalks were all coated in slush so I couldn't walk nearly as fast as I wanted to without a fear of slipping, and I think I circled the same block twice before I stopped to ask for directions. In retrospect, I wonder if spending 30 seconds of dubbing over the lines of a talking pig were really worth it. One would probably debate whether or not it was fortunate to skip the Theatre class I was in to make it to the museum on time (I ended up arriving twenty minutes early, by the way). Of course, it did cost me a reading of the play Legend of the White Snake, which is one of the driving factors causing me to spectacularly fail my Theatre midterm. That being said, this was a trip I certainly won’t soon forget.
